Brief Biography:
Professor Nixon’s background is in Emergency nursing with a Pediatric specialty. Working most recently at Children’s Hospital Colorado (2008-2015) and National Jewish Health (2004-2009). However, she began her medical career as a medic in the U.S. Air Force in 1993 and had worked in many nursing fields before finding that her love was the ER/UC, including OB, MH, and Med/Surgical. Mrs. Nixon has always loved education and was a member on the education, research/ documentation, and orientation committees at Children’s, which mentors new grads and senior nursing students. Shortly before obtaining her Master of Science in Nursing with an emphasis in Nursing Education, she began teaching at Denver School of Nursing (DSN) in October 2014. While at DSN, she has taught medical/surgical, pediatric, and OB clinicals and simulation classes, and was a clinical facilitator for capstone placement. From 2015-16, she managed the Clinical and Simulation departments, and briefly oversaw the Learning labs. Currently, she is teaching Capstone Seminar for both BSNs and ADNs and enjoys seeing them transition from students to novice nurses. Mrs. Nixon can be found skiing or hiking (depending on the time of year) on her days off.*
